My name is Willie Sease and I’m really excited about attending the conference this year. I have attended the last three as a student and will be attending as a practicing professional.
I find the professional development at ASSE top notch, especially the annual conference. I wanted to share my passion for ASSE and safety by becoming an ASSE Ambassador. I learn so much and make new connections each year. Plus, it’s a great feeling to be around so many people that are safety professionals.
Currently, I serve as an Occupational Health and Safety Specialist at the University of Chicago. I have obtained a GSP, a master’s in Safety Management and a bachelor’s in Safety Science from the Indiana University Bloomington. Go Hoosiers!
How I got into safety
The defining moment in my life that I choose safety as a career path, was when my father was hurt on the job while I was a child, that ultimately cost him his job. I don't want anyone else's family to have to endure what my family had to go through. That fuels my passion for the profession. I want to make sure everyone goes home safely the way that they came.
My involvement with ASSE
I have been a member of ASSE since 2013, started as serving as a student officer. My last year as a student I took on the role as president of my student section, helping our section earn its first prestigious Outstanding Student Section Award.
ASSE provided a platform to obtain the knowledge from seasoned professionals, that way, up-and-coming professionals can be better in their craft. It has allowed me to build relationships, provides resource avenues where I can obtain any type of information and has also prepared me for my venture into the professional world.
